Child Labour Activities in Madurai

To with the objectives to establish and  maintain residential schools for the children of  weaker sections, tribals and child labourers in  order to enable them raise their educational  standards through formal education  centers.Initially its primary focus was the  implementation of a children's rights  programme  in the slums around Madurai. The organization is active in 11 slums around the city

and is active with children working in vessel polishing establishments, after centre, PDA eastablised children's home at Elamnoor near Madurai.stone quarries and children working in various other unorganized labour sectors and their parents. The organization realizes that it is important to involve the parents in their activities because they are sometimes the cause of child labour and exploitation. PDA also realized that to focus on the slum areas only does not address the problem since there is a daily influx of children from the nearby villages - in search of refuge, food and shelter.

It is for these reasons that the organization has decided to implement a programme for Street Children in the city of Madurai and initiate a development education and awareness programme in the villages around Madurai. A pilot programme is on the anvil and the organization realizes there is a need to strengthen these programmes in the future.
